The Gravity Ball Story

In 2012, Dr. Mark Chavez quit working as an emergency room doctor in order to regain his failing health. Dr. Chavez had gained 60 lbs, was depressed and feel tired all the time. He was fed up with the toll that years of working overnight shifts in a busy ER and eating meals out of the vending machine had taken on him. He was ready for a change.

Raised by a body builder father, Dr. Chavez had been exposed to fitness all of his life. However, he had developed a distaste for traditional gyms due to the unsafe, bulky equipment and the environment filled with loud, sweaty men. He wanted a fun, compact and highly versatile tool for exercise that he could use inside of his small apartment. His motivation was to have the ability to obtain a high quality workout without needing to join a gym or use traditional strength training equipment which Chavez found limiting and unappealing.

Chavez began deconstructing old medicine balls, attaching various strap configurations and experimenting with materials to coat the surface of the ball. While he developed the product he also spent time using it everyday for 30 minutes. He attributes this habit to his ability to loose 60 lbs and maintain his weight to this day. The methodology he practiced became the Gravity Ball method of resistance exercise and the disassembled medicine ball would become the Gravity Ball we see today.

While creating the Gravity Ball, Chavez was inspired by his father, who had received a nerve injury following a surgery which left him unable to fully close his hands. Dr. Chavez incorporated a pair of loop straps into the Gravity Ball's design (that require no gripping of the ball) for his father which he continues to use to this day.

Dr. Chavez was also inspired to help his patients after realizing that over half of their diseases including diabetes, metabolic symdrome, obesity, cancer, chronic pain and muscular-skeletal imbalances stem from a lack of healthy muscle mass and bone density, both of which can be obtained through resistance exercise.

Resistance exercise had become the answer for him and had shown it can help so many others. The Gravity Ball continues to impact people to this day as we educate the world about the benefits resistance exercise brings to your health, happiness and well being. Thank you for being part of this journey.
